We are an accounting firm that specializes in helping small businesses, and we currently have just over 400 clients from all over Sweden, though the majority of our clients are from the Stockholm area. We started the company in 2013, and since then we have worked hard to develop systems and processes tailored to small businesses. Most of our consultants live and work in Stockholm, but we also have staff and subcontractors working remotely from other locations. We work entirely digitally, so our clients and consultants can be located anywhere in Sweden.

To succeed in our vision of ensuring that all small business owners in Sweden can afford quality accounting services, we have invested heavily in system development to have efficient processes adapted to our own operations and our customer segment, which is small business owners. This allows us to keep costs low, maintain a high quality of work, and make the workflow very smooth for our clients.

Can’t you manage your own bookkeeping if you have a small business?

The real question isn’t if you can, but how accurate you want it to be and how much energy you’re willing to put into it. Since we started, we haven’t seen a single company where a customer has done their own bookkeeping that we would have accepted if one of us had done the job. Many times, we’ve seen quite a few serious mistakes, even when the customer felt that they had done well and everything should be correct. It all depends on how big the company is and how many transactions need to be bookkept. What should I consider when choosing an accounting firm in Stockholm?

This is obviously a highly subjective question, but here are a few points from our perspective:

• What exactly do you need help with? Hire a firm that offers just that in the simplest way possible. A firm that offers much more than that often has more complex work processes and higher overhead costs, so if price is important to you, it might be a good idea not to hire a firm that is more complex than your needs.
• Consider what’s important to you. Is it a low price? That the firm is located in Stockholm so you can meet if needed? The availability of those working on your accounting? Quick reports? Specialist knowledge of your industry? A close relationship with an accountant? Write down and prioritize this before contacting an accounting firm. Then ask questions and don’t trust anyone who says they can offer and excel at everything you want. It’s easy to think that all accounting firms offer roughly the same thing, but that’s not our experience.
• The workload to manage the accounting for a smaller company is fairly easy to predict if there are clear work processes, which is why many firms now offer billing models that don’t charge by the hour. We strongly recommend this, as we see a very large price difference when we compare what our customers have paid to previous firms that bill by the hour. There are many accounting firms in Stockholm that offer various forms of fixed prices, so we recommend taking a closer look at them.
• Ask how the firm staffs your project. Is there a dedicated person who handles everything? What happens if that person is sick or on vacation? Is it a team handling the project? What level of experience is being offered? This is very important to ask for small business owners, as it’s not uncommon to be assigned to an inexperienced accountant.
• It might be worth checking out the firm on, for example, Allabolag. Has the firm been around for a long time, or is it newly started? If it’s new, you need to be cautious and check how much experience the firm’s accountants actually have. How many employees does the firm have? A one-person firm can be risky because everything relies on one person, and a very large firm can be risky because your project might not be staffed in a way that benefits you as a small business owner.

Since we work with smaller companies, we don’t offer many different services separately, but we have a work model where we help most customers with roughly the same things.
